Customize
FrontPage 2000 Interface
Like
all the other Office 2000 applications, Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000
lets you quickly customize its user interface. You can add commands to
any menu or any toolbar and even create your own toolbar of commonly
used commands.
To get started choose Customize from the
Tools menu--or just click in the empty gray area to the right of the
menu bar or any toolbar. Click the Commands tab if it's not already
selected.
The scrolling list on the left shows
various categories of commands, and the scrolling list on the right
shows the commands within the chosen category. Once you've found the
command you want to add, simply drag it to the menu or toolbar where it
should appear. (When you drag it to a menu, that menu will drop down,
allowing you to position the command wherever you want it to appear.)
The Customize dialog box also lets you
customize the icons and/or text for any command. Choose the command--on
a menu or toolbar, not in the Customize dialog box--and click Modify
Selection. The menu that pops up lets you change a dozen different
aspects of how the command appears.

Saving
Your Changes in FrontPage 2000
When
you click the Publish button in Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000, the
program compares the files in the local copy of your Web with those on
the Web server. If a newer version of a file exists locally, FrontPage
2000 uploads it to the server.
Sometimes, however, FrontPage seems to
not upload pages that are open in the editor. The reason is not that
they're open, but that you haven't saved any changes you've made. Before
publishing, then, you should always save your changes by choosing Save
All from FrontPage Editor's File menu.
If you're using FrontPage 2000, however,
you may have noticed that the Save All command is missing, which means
you have to manually save all the pages that are open in the editor-a
potentially tedious process.
Fortunately, thanks to the integration of
Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) with FrontPage 2000, you can easily
restore the Save All command. For complete details, visit this page on
the Microsoft Web site:

Find
and Replace Feature
You
can find and replace HTML in all the pages in a site or in a selected
group of pages. To limit your global changes to a group of pages, first
go to the Folders view and select the pages you want. After that, the
procedure is the same for processing all the pages in a site. Select the
Edit/Replace menu to bring up the Replace dialog box. Type the code you
want to find and then the replacement code. Under Search Options, choose
either All Pages or Selected Pages. Be sure to also select the Find In
HTML option. Click the Find In Web button to find every occurrence of
the code you're looking for. Then click the Replace All button, and
every instance of your code will be replaced.
You can use this technique to change
anything in the underlying source code of a page, including tags,
attributes, values, comments, and scripts. It's also very helpful for
changing email addresses or any other hyperlinks.

Absolute-Style
Positioning for Page Elements
You
can control the exact location and order of page elements, such as text
or graphics, by selecting the element you want to position and then
clicking the Position Absolutely button on the Pictures toolbar.

Set
the Tab Order in a Form
In
Page view, double-click a field to edit its properties. In the Tab Order
box, type a number indicating the tab order you want for the selected
field. Repeat this procedure for each field for which you want to
set the tab order.

Creating
a Hyperlink to a Bookmark on the Same Page
Quickly
create a hyperlink to a bookmark by selecting the text you want to jump
to, holding the right mouse button and dragging the text to the new
location. Release the mouse button and click Link Here on the menu that
appears. FrontPage will automatically create the hyperlink to the
bookmark.

Inserting
a Blank Line Above or Below a Table
If
the first item on your page is a table and you want to insert a blank
line above the table, click in the first table cell and press
CTRL+ENTER. FrontPage inserts a blank line above the table. To insert a
blank line below a table, click in the last table cell and press
CTRL+ENTER. |
