| Sorry, I am "NOT" a People Person... |
| |
Contrary to popular belief, I’m by no means a “people person” and my perceived “stand-offish” attitude is generally misinterpreted as personal arrogance. Allow me to correct those self diagnosing wanna-be psychologists who most likely completed a single high school psychology course with a “C” grade average. I’m extremely introverted. Get over it and by all means, please pursue an alternate profession.
Technically, I fit into the stereotypical category of geek. Whereas it may imply certain social deficiencies, I would say that a geek is a person who is talented in an area outside the boundaries of social normality. There are different kinds of geeks; band geeks, gaming geeks, literary geeks, film geeks, science geeks, computer geeks, etc. They generally have one thing in common, whether or not they are able to disguise it from the rest of the world.
Some find it strange I refer to myself this way and others believe it’s an inaccurate interpretation of my personality considering I have the ability to carry a conversation. Lady’s and gentleman, possessing the ability to carry a conversation is not directly proportional to ones social interaction abilities. Please take note; they’re mutually exclusive. For the record, I have a 5 year old nephew that has the ability to carry a relatively intelligent conversation.
Believe it or not, people here consider the fact I don’t crave authority or increased work related technical challenges as arrogant. Yes, I have actually been accused of this. What many fail to comprehend is; “With added authority or technical responsibility comes additional interaction with bi-pedal carbon-based units or better known as humans.” Sadly, I have grown to accept their inability to correctly diagnose my psychological issues and can only smile when confronted.
Do I personally enjoy being like this? Fuck no. However,
considering psychology is not a proven science and I am
unwilling to seek analysis from a physician of horizontal
interrogation, (psychiatrist) I shall forever be this way.
Nevertheless, please feel free to enter my socially handicapped
world and carry a conversation however please do not expect me
to enter yours. |
